CSXs Mountain Subdivision between Grafton, West Virginia and Cumberland, Maryland has 4 major grades that cross the Appalachian Mountains, 2 up and 2 down in each direction. The Newburg, Cheat River, Cranberry, and Seventeen Mile grades are major obstacles on the 100-mile route. In late August of 2008, CSX freight Q316, led by CW44ACs #426 and #298, heads eastbound out of Newburg with 50 cars, tackling the Newburg Grade at a slow, steady pace. Its already past the point of the maximum grade, 2.37%, thats at the bottom of the hill. It has climbed about 500 feet since it left Newburg, West Virginia, 7 miles west of here. The video was taken at the Raccoon Valley Road crossing, just west of Tunnelton, West Virginia. Included is a cameo appearance by MOVRMAN!
